A study was carried out to identify a project enabling the promotion of solar energy in Burkina Faso. The conclusion recommended that a 22 MW PV power plant be built in Zagtouli, near Ouagadougou. A first tender dossier was drafted for this project which will be funded by EIB and AFD loans and an EU grant.

In 2012, the EU delegation chose AETS to assist SONABEL in the preparation of this project which includes updating the feasibility study (technical and economic study including network study) as well as the tender procedure. As a consequence of the feasibility study, it was decided to increase the power plant capacity to 33 MW. The tender dossier was then prepared accordingly.

In this context, AETS carried out the following tasks:

  • Preparation of required documents to continue the project preparation and to launch the tender;

  • Assistance to SONABEL in recruiting the turnkey contractor in charge of the construction of the PV power plant;

Assistance to SONABEL in recruiting the consulting engineer in charge of the supervising the construction of the PV power plant
