The energy resource and environmental strategy is one of Azerbaijan’s top priorities. In support of this, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development financed the rehabilitation of key electrical power plants operated by AzerEnerji, the national utility, such as this 8 × 300 MW gas/mazut-fired plant power plant (AzIE) located in Mingachevir and built in the eighties during the soviet era. Its refurbishment by a Chinese company should improve the process (Low-NOx burner, insulation, SCADA, demineralised water treatment…) and thus mitigate damages on the environment.
In this framework, AETS was chosen to support AzerEnerji and AzIE to meet the EBRD requirements regarding HSE policy through the definition and the approval of an action plan which commits AzerEnerji in enhancing Health, Safety and Environmental conditions.
This action plan included several actions related to treatment of pollutions (liquid, solid and air pollutions), waste management and treatment, Occupational Health and safety measures to minimise risks of injury, reporting on the power plant activities…
This plan equally included the conditions to measure the implementation progress of the defined actions and a training programme. AETS equally supported AzerEnerji and AzIE in defining the procurement of necessary testing, control and monitoring equipment.
